We are continuing monitoring thunderstorms that will be moving in to the area. The main question will be the timing. The Storm Prediction Center has backed off a bit on the areal coverage of severe probabilities, with areas northwest of Pittsburgh, having the chance of seeing storms with damaging winds and large hail. Timing would be during the late afternoon and evening, with the risk expected to end by midnight with the loss of daytime heating. We will continue to update the forecast as it changes. *images are property of the NWS*

A major warm-front will be sweeping Pennsylvania, and yes, temperatures will be reaching near 90-degrees on Wednesday! Even though today, Monday, will be less than 70-degrees – do not fear! The warm air will be coming in tomorrow which will cause the atmosphere to gradually warm for the summer time. But please note, non-severe thunderstorms are expected to “fire” over Ohio, bringing us warmth but also rain. High winds are also expected, but the forecast is really unclear if we will see severe-criteria thunderstorm cells or not. Thunderstorms are expected across much of the Upper Midwest on Wednesday. However, uncertainty is too high at this time to pinpoint where, or how much, strong to severe thunderstorm activity may develop. Storms should remain non-severe for most of Pennsylvania as of right now. The outlook could change from now until Wednesday and will be updated IF changes do arise. Be sure to keep an eye open for any updated forecasts that may be written. Outlook map for Wednesday, May 17, 2017. Subject to change. *Map is property of NOAA, NWS and SPC*

A major pattern change is ahead after Mother’s Day, which will bring several big changes in the nation’s weather in the new week ahead. An omega block has influenced weather conditions across the U.S. so far this month, but this clog in the atmosphere is finally expected to break down next week. The pattern will slowly transition to an upper-level trough, or southward dip in the jet stream, in the West and an upper-level ridge, or northward bulge of the jet stream, over the East. The jet stream pattern is expected to change after Mother’s Day, with a trough developing in the West and a ridge over the East. The result
